Clover Processing Fees: Tapped vs Typed-In Cards

The biggest jump on Clover isn’t between plans, it’s between card-present and typed-in payments: 2.6% versus 3.5% on Starter. If you take phone orders, a payment link or an invoice usually costs less than keying the card yourself.

Clover Transaction Fees Plus Monthly Plan: True Monthly Cost

Clover’s lower-rate plans cost more each month, so the cheaper percentage only pays off at volume. Buying the device outright:

  • Essentials adds $29.95/month for 0.1 points off Starter.
  • Services growth adds $84.95/month for 0.3 points off.

Bundled financing runs $40, $70 or $125 a month for 36 months.

The arithmetic is blunt. Essentials’ 0.1% saving covers $29.95 only above about $30,000 a month in card sales. Below that, Starter is the better deal on fees alone; pick a bigger plan for its features, not its rate.

Small tickets and the 10¢

Clover’s fixed fee is 10¢, lower than many rivals’ 15¢–30¢, which helps cafés and food trucks. A $12 card sale on Starter costs $0.41. That’s 3.4% of the sale, where the percentage alone would be 2.6%. If most of your sales are under $15, compare the fixed fee before anything else: Square’s in-person rate is 2.6% + 15¢.
