Cash App is free for paying friends, so its fees surprise people when they show up. They come in three places: 2.6% + 15¢ on every payment into a Business account, 0.5% to 2.5% to move money to your bank in minutes, and 3% when someone sends from a credit card. Cash App’s own pages don’t agree on the instant fee either: its Send page still quotes 0.5%–1.75% with a $0.25 minimum, while its terms and help center say 0.5%–2.5%, $0.25–$1 minimum, $75 maximum. The calculator above follows the terms and applies each fee to exactly the amount Cash App names.

Four details catch most people out:

  • Business fees are charged on the whole payment. Cash App doesn’t split out shipping or sales tax, so whatever the customer sends pays 2.6% + 15¢.
  • The instant fee is a range, and the app picks the number. It is shown before you confirm. We use the top of the range by default; enter the rate your app shows under “More options” to match it.
  • The sender pays the 3% credit card fee, not the recipient. For pool contributions, Cash App’s Pools page says it applies to a credit card used through Apple Pay or Google Pay too.
  • Adding cash costs $1 for everyone, Cash App Green included.

$1,000.00$26.152.61%$973.85

The fixed 15¢ is what makes small payments expensive: a $5 payment gives up 5.6%, while payments of $500 and more give up about 2.6%.

How the fees add up on one payment

A customer pays $100 into your Business account and you move it to your debit card instantly:

Worked example
  • Payer pays$100.00
  • Cash App Business processing fee2.6% × $100.00 + $0.15−$2.75
  • Instant deposit fee2.5% × $97.25−$2.43
  • You keep$94.82

Cash App first takes 2.6% of $100 plus 15¢, so $97.25 lands in your balance. The instant fee is then charged on that $97.25, not on the original $100: at the top rate of 2.5% it is $2.43. A standard deposit would have cost nothing and left you $97.25.

Instant deposit fees

Cashing out with an instant deposit at the top rate of 2.5% and a $1 minimum:

Payment amountTotal feesFee rateYou keep
$20.00$1.005.00%$19.00
$50.00$1.252.50%$48.75
$100.00$2.502.50%$97.50
$250.00$6.252.50%$243.75
$500.00$12.502.50%$487.50
$1,000.00$25.002.50%$975.00
$3,000.00$75.002.50%$2,925.00
$5,000.00$75.001.50%$4,925.00

At the bottom of the range, 0.5% with a $0.25 minimum, the same transfers cost far less: $0.25 on $20, $0.50 on $100, $5.00 on $1,000. The minimum weighs most on small transfers: $1.00 on $20 is 5% at the top rate. The $75 cap works the other way, so $5,000 costs the same $75.00 as $3,000. If your card turns out not to support instant deposits, Cash App refunds the fee and the money arrives in 1–3 business days.

Standard deposits are free, but they can’t go to a Mastercard debit card. Link a bank account if you want the free option.

Business account, personal account or Earn in P2P?

Personal payments are free to send and receive. The catch is that they are for personal use: Cash App’s terms let it require you to open or switch to a Business account if it decides you are selling with a personal one. Once you are on a Business account, every payment pays 2.6% + 15¢, and Tap to Pay payments in person pay a flat 3% ($1.35 on a $45 sale) with nothing charged to your customer.

On September 10, 2026 Cash App announced Earn in P2P, a pilot that lets eligible sole proprietors take payments for goods and services in a personal account with no fee. It isn’t open to LLCs or corporations, needs your full Social Security number on file, and Cash App says it can add fees with advance notice. If the option appears in your app, pick “Earn in P2P” above to compare.

Credit cards, cash deposits and ATMs

  • Sending from a credit card costs the sender 3%: $6.00 on $200. Turn on “They’re paying with a credit card” for a personal payment to see the sender’s total.
  • Paper money deposits cost $1 each, taken from the cash: $20 becomes $19 in your balance. Deposits must be $5 to $500.
  • ATM withdrawals cost $2.50, plus whatever the ATM’s owner charges at most out-of-network ATMs. Cash App Green makes in-network withdrawals free, but since November 5, 2025 Cash App no longer pays back fees at out-of-network ATMs.

Cash App Pay fees for merchants

When a customer pays with Cash App Pay at your checkout, the customer pays nothing and your processor charges you. Square charges it at your card rate: 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online on Square Free or a legacy plan, less on Plus and Premium. Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢. On a $50 sale that is $1.45, $1.95 and $1.75. That money lands in your Square or Stripe balance, so their payout rules apply; see the Square fee calculator and the Stripe fee calculator.

Ways to keep more of each sale

  • Use standard deposits. They are free; instant deposits cost up to 2.5%.
  • Cash out in fewer, larger transfers if you do go instant. The minimum fee hits small transfers hardest, and the $75 cap helps very large ones.
  • Ask friends to pay from their balance or debit card, which is free for them, instead of a credit card.
  • Take fewer, larger payments where you can. Each payment carries its own 15¢.
  • Check whether Earn in P2P is offered to you if you sell as a sole proprietor.
  • Compare before you choose an app. The Venmo fee calculator and PayPal fee calculator show the same payment on those apps.

Questions people ask

How much does Cash App charge for an instant transfer in 2026?

Instant deposits to a debit card cost 0.5% to 2.5% of the amount, with a minimum of $0.25 to $1 and a maximum of $75. Cash App shows the exact fee before you confirm, and refunds it if your card can’t take an instant deposit. Standard deposits to a bank account are free and take 1–3 business days.

What is the Cash App instant deposit fee for $100, $500 or $1,000?

Depending on the rate your app shows, $100 costs $0.50 to $2.50, $500 costs $2.50 to $12.50, and $1,000 costs $5.00 to $25.00. At the top rate the fee reaches its $75 maximum at $3,000, so moving $5,000 costs $75.00, not $125.

Does Cash App charge a fee to send money with a credit card, and who pays it?

Yes: 3% of the amount, paid by the sender. Sending $200 from a credit card costs $6.00, so $206.00 leaves the sender’s card and the recipient gets $200.00. Paying from a Cash balance or a debit card is free.

How much does Cash App take from a business account payment?

2.6% of each payment plus $0.15, taken before the money reaches your balance. A $100 payment costs $2.75 and leaves $97.25; a $10 payment costs $0.41. The fee is charged on everything the customer sends, so shipping or sales tax you include is charged too.

Is the Cash App Business fee 2.75% or 2.6% + 15 cents?

Cash App’s help center lists 2.6% + $0.15 per payment. On exactly $100 that is $2.75, the same as a flat 2.75%. Below $100 the 15¢ makes it cost more ($0.67 on a $20 payment, 3.35%), and above $100 it costs less ($13.15 on $500, 2.63%).

What is the Cash App Tap to Pay fee?

A flat 3% of each contactless payment you take on your phone with a Cash App Business account, with no fixed fee. A $45 tap costs $1.35 and you keep $43.65. Your customer isn’t charged anything.

How much does it cost to add cash to Cash App at a store?

$1 per paper money deposit, taken out of the cash you hand over: deposit $20 and your balance gets $19. Each deposit must be $5 to $500, and some stores require at least $20 when you swipe your Cash App Card. Cash App Green customers pay the $1 too.

How much is the Cash App ATM fee, and does Cash App still reimburse ATM fees?

Cash App charges $2.50 per ATM withdrawal, and most out-of-network ATMs add their own fee. With Cash App Green (spend $500 a month with your Cash App Card or Cash App Pay, or get $300 in qualifying paychecks deposited) in-network withdrawals are free. Since November 5, 2025 Cash App no longer reimburses fees at out-of-network ATMs, so there you pay the $2.50 and any operator fee.

Is Cash App Pay free, and what do merchants pay for it?

It’s free for customers. Merchants pay their processor: Square charges Cash App Pay like a card, 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online on Square Free, and Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢. On a $50 sale that is $1.45, $1.95 or $1.75.

Can I sell on Cash App without paying fees?

Only through Earn in P2P, a pilot Cash App announced on September 10, 2026. Eligible sole proprietors can take payments for goods and services in a personal account with no fee for now. LLCs and corporations aren’t eligible, and Cash App can add a fee with advance notice.
