What moves your Stripe fee

Card origin matters most. The same £100 costs £1.70 from a UK personal card, £2.70 from an EEA card and £3.35 from a card issued elsewhere, and you can’t choose which card the customer uses. If many of your customers pay large invoices, offering Pay by Bank (capped at £5) or Bacs (capped at £4) caps the fee completely.

Stripe adds a fee if it converts currency, and disputes cost £20 each. Both are in the calculator’s options.

A £30 example

A £30 payment on a UK personal card costs £0.65 (1.5% + 20p) and leaves £29.35. The fixed 20p is the bigger share on small payments: on £5 it’s 4% before the percentage. For larger invoices, Pay by Bank is capped at £5 and Bacs at £4, which is why subscription and B2B businesses often prefer them (Stripe UK pricing).
