PayPal Fees UK: Goods and Services, Invoices and Abroad

The domestic rate is simple; the international extras are where costs creep in. A £100 sale to France costs £4.49 instead of £3.20, and to the US £5.19. If PayPal also converts the currency, its exchange rate includes a 3% spread on top.

To receive an exact amount, switch to What to charge: PayPal’s percentage also applies to what you add, so £100 in your pocket needs £103.30 from a UK buyer.

Card payments without a PayPal account

When a customer pays by card without a PayPal account, the UK rate is 1.2% + 30p: on a £40 sale that’s £0.78, far less than the £1.46 a PayPal-balance payment would cost. The difference is PayPal’s pricing, not something you choose at checkout, but it’s worth knowing when you compare PayPal with SumUp or Stripe for online sales.
