How we tested
We ran the same two clothing sales through each platform’s fee engine on October 24, 2026: a $25 top and a $40 jacket, each with $6.49 shipping. Where the buyer pays the label directly (Poshmark, Mercari, Vinted, Facebook), nothing is subtracted; where you ship yourself and keep the shipping charge (Depop, eBay), we subtract the postage. Every figure is what you keep after postage, before what you paid for the item.

Best Place to Sell Clothes Online, Ranked by Payout
| $40 jacket, $6.49 shipping | Fees | Fee rate | You keep after postage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | $0.00 | 0.00% | $40.00 |
| Depop | $1.98 | 4.26% | $38.02 |
| Mercari | $4.65 | 11.6% | $35.35 |
| Facebook Marketplace (shipped) | $4.65 | 11.6% | $35.35 |
| eBay (Clothing) | $6.72 | 14.5% | $33.28 |
| Poshmark | $8.00 | 20.0% | $32.00 |
| $25 top, $6.49 shipping | Fees | Fee rate | You keep after postage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | $0.00 | 0.00% | $25.00 |
| Depop | $1.49 | 4.73% | $23.51 |
| Mercari | $3.15 | 12.6% | $21.85 |
| eBay (Clothing) | $4.68 | 14.9% | $20.32 |
| Poshmark | $5.00 | 20.0% | $20.00 |
The ranking is the same at both prices. Vinted keeps the full price because the buyer pays a 5% + $0.70 fee and the label. Depop charges US sellers no selling fee, just 3.3% + $0.45 processing. Mercari takes a flat 10% of the item plus shipping. eBay takes 13.6% plus $0.40 per order on clothing. Poshmark takes 20% of any sale of $15 or more (Poshmark Fee Policy).
Best App to Sell Clothes, by What You’re Selling
Fees are only half of it. The other half is whether the app has buyers for your pieces.
- Vintage, Y2K, streetwear, one-offs: Depop. Its buyers search for style, not brand, and its fees are among the lowest.
- Mall brands, workwear, everyday basics: Poshmark. A huge US audience shops by brand, and bundles move several items at once. The 20% hurts, but sell-through is often faster.
- Anything, with low effort: Mercari. Simple listing, flat 10%, buyers pay the label.
- Designer, rare sizes, collector pieces: eBay. The largest search audience in the US and auction formats for pieces with uncertain value.
- Kids’ clothes and quick bundles: Facebook Marketplace or local groups, where a local pickup has no selling fee at all.
- UK and Europe: Vinted first; it’s the dominant app there and sellers pay nothing.

Best Place to Sell Used Clothes When Speed Matters
When you just want the closet cleared, speed and effort matter more than the last few dollars.
- Consignment and buy-outright services (ThredUp, The RealReal for luxury, local consignment shops) do the photos, pricing and shipping for you. You trade a big share of the price for that.
- Local pickup on Facebook Marketplace pays cash today with no fees, best for bulky items and bundles.
- Peer-to-peer apps pay the most but take the most work: photos, measurements, messages, shipping.
Our rule: anything you’d list for under $10 goes in a bundle, to a local buyer or to a consignment bag; anything over $20 gets its own listing on the app that fits it.
Seasonality matters as much as the app. Coats and boots sell best as the weather turns, swimwear in late spring, and formalwear before prom and wedding season. Listing a few weeks ahead of demand often gets a better price than any fee saving, so it’s worth holding seasonal pieces rather than dumping them in the wrong month.
Fees at a glance
| App | Seller pays | Buyer pays on top | Shipping |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | Nothing | 5% + $0.70 Vinted fee | Buyer pays the label |
| Depop | 3.3% + $0.45 processing (0% selling fee) | Marketplace fee up to 5% + $1 | You ship, or a Depop label from the buyer’s shipping |
| Mercari | 10% of item + shipping | 3.6% Buyer Protection | Buyer pays the prepaid label |
| Facebook Marketplace | 10% (min $0.80) with checkout, $0 local | Nothing extra | Buyer, or you if you offer free shipping |
| eBay (clothing) | 13.6% of the total + $0.40 per order | Nothing extra | Buyer pays you; you buy the label |
| Poshmark | $2.95 under $15, 20% from $15 | Nothing extra | Buyer pays $6.49 label (up to 5 lb) |
Sources: each platform’s fee page, linked below. Low seller fees on Vinted and Depop are partly paid by buyers, so their checkout totals are higher, which can matter on price-sensitive items.
A closet clean-out: 20 items at $25
Say you have 20 pieces worth about $25 each. Selling them all individually leaves roughly:
- Vinted: $500.00 (buyers pay the fees).
- Depop: about $470 after processing and postage.
- Mercari: about $437.
- Poshmark: $400.00 after the 20% fee.
That’s a $100 difference between the top and bottom app for the same 20 items. It’s also 20 listings, 20 conversations and 20 trips to the post office, which is exactly what consignment services charge you to skip.
The hidden costs that change the ranking
- Offers. Every app is offer-driven, and discounts come straight out of what you keep. On Poshmark a $40 item sold at $32 leaves $25.60.
- Shipping you underprice. On Depop and eBay you ship yourself; charge less than the real postage and the difference comes from your payout.
- Promoted or boosted listings. Depop’s 12% boosting fee applies when a sale comes from a boosted listing; eBay’s promoted listings charge your chosen ad rate.
- Heavy items. Poshmark’s label covers 5 lb; heavier boxes cost the buyer more and can stall a sale of boots or coats.

How to sell more, wherever you list
- Photos in daylight, on a plain background, plus one worn or on-body shot.
- Measurements, not just the size label: pit-to-pit, length, waist and inseam.
- Honest condition notes with close-ups of any flaws. Returns cost more than a lower price, and on most apps a buyer who receives something not as described can open a case that freezes your payout until it’s resolved.
- Cross-list your best pieces on two or three apps, and delist the moment something sells.
- Price from what you want to keep. Switch any of our calculators to What to charge, enter your target, and it solves the list price after that app’s fees.

Questions people ask
What is the best app to sell clothes?
For keeping the most per sale in the US, Vinted (sellers pay no fee) and Depop (no selling fee, 3.3% + $0.45 processing). For the most buyers of everyday brands, Poshmark and eBay. For speed with no effort, a consignment service, at a much lower payout.
Who pays the most for used clothes?
Whoever you sell to directly. Marketplaces where you set the price (Vinted, Depop, Mercari, Poshmark, eBay) pay far more than buy-outright or consignment services, which have to resell at a profit.
Is Vinted or Depop better for selling clothes?
Vinted charges sellers nothing, so you keep the full price; Depop charges US sellers only payment processing. Depop’s audience is bigger for vintage and streetwear in the US, Vinted’s in the UK and Europe.
Is there a better option than ThredUp?
If you’re willing to photograph and ship items yourself, yes: any peer-to-peer app pays far more per item. ThredUp’s appeal is that it does all the work, which is what its lower payout pays for.
What are people using instead of Poshmark?
Mostly Depop, Mercari, Vinted and eBay, often cross-listing on several. Many keep Poshmark for brands that sell well there and list one-offs and vintage elsewhere.
