Whatnot’s commission is no longer one number. Since September 21, 2026 the rate depends on two things: your total sales in the previous four weeks and the category of each sale. On top of it sits a payment processing fee that works differently: it is charged on everything the buyer pays, shipping and sales tax included, plus a fixed fee on every single win. The calculator above applies each fee to exactly the base Whatnot names, using the current rate card for your market, and shows the arithmetic line by line.

Four things catch most sellers out:

  • Commission and processing use different bases. Commission is charged on the sale price only. The 2.9% processing fee is charged on the buyer’s whole total, so higher shipping or a high-tax state raises your fees even though you never receive that money.
  • The $0.30 is per win, not per show. Every item a buyer wins is its own transaction. On $1 auction starts, fees can take more than half the sale.
  • A new tier starts next period. Crossing $15,000 halfway through a 4-week period doesn’t lower anything until the following period begins.
  • Live sales use the show’s category. Sell a sneaker in a trading card show and it pays the card rate for your tier.

What you keep at common prices

Each row assumes a US seller at the Standard tier, a trading card, $4.47 shipping (USPS Ground Advantage under 4 oz) and no sales tax.

The fixed $0.30 and the 2.9% on shipping weigh most on small wins: a $1 sale gives up 54% and a $10 sale 15.2%, while from $50 up the fees settle at around 11–12% of the sale price. The $500 row also includes the $4.36 signature confirmation Whatnot adds to orders of $500 or more.

How the fees add up on one order

A $100 Fashion item sold by a seller at Tier 2, with $7.75 shipping and 8% sales tax:

Worked example
  • Buyer pays$115.75
  • Commission fee6.5% × $100.00−$6.50
  • Payment processing fee2.9% × $115.75 + $0.30−$3.66
  • You keep$89.84

The buyer pays $115.75: the $100 price, $7.75 for the label and $8.00 of sales tax. Commission is 6.5% of the $100 alone, which is $6.50. Processing is 2.9% of the full $115.75 plus $0.30, which comes to $3.66. You keep $89.84. The shipping goes to Whatnot to pay for the prepaid label, and the tax goes to the state.

How the new commission tiers work

Whatnot adds up your completed orders across every category, in live shows and the marketplace, over a 28-day period. That total sets your tier for the next 28 days. Private shows and local pickup orders don’t count, cancelled orders are subtracted, and each seller account is counted on its own.

In the US the tiers start at $15,000, $35,000, $50,000, $100,000, $250,000 and $500,000. On a $100 trading card the commission is $8.00 at Standard, $7.75 at Tier 1 and $6.50 at Tier 6. Categories fall at different speeds: Fashion reaches 4.5% and Other Collectibles 5%, while Sports and TCG stop at 6.5%. Canada, the UK and Europe use 10,000, 20,000, 35,000, 50,000, 65,000 and 85,000 in local currency; Australia uses A$10,000 up to A$130,000.

Seller Hub projects where you will finish by dividing your sales so far by the days elapsed and multiplying by 28. Pick your current tier in the calculator, and the note under the result shows the threshold and rate for the next one.

Big sales: 0% above $1,500 and Premier Shop

In Trading Card Games, sports singles, Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Entertainment Cards, Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of one sale above 1,500 (US dollars, pounds, euros or Australian dollars). A $2,000 card with $7.75 shipping pays $120 in commission instead of $160, but processing is still $58.52 on the full $2,007.75, and the $4.36 signature fee applies. You keep $1,817.12. Sports breaks and Surprise Products are excluded, and the promotion can end at any time.

Premier Shops get 10% off their rate through October 31, 2026 (8% becomes 7.2%). From November 1 that discount is gone, and the calculator stops applying it on that date.

Selling in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia

  • UK, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands pay 6.67% commission and 2.42% + £/€0.25 processing, plus VAT if you haven’t given Whatnot a VAT number. With 20% VAT added, that works out to 8% and about 2.9% + 0.30. A £25 card with £3.27 shipping costs £3.12 in fees without a VAT number and £2.60 with one.
  • France and Belgium pay 4% + VAT on sports and trading cards at every tier, which is why they keep the most in the table.
  • Australia pays 2.9% + A$0.30 processing and adds 10% GST to fees for sellers without a GST registration. Sports and TCG fall faster than in the US, to 6% at the top tier.
  • Canada uses the US percentages, but the tiers start lower and are in Canadian dollars: Tier 1 from C$10,000 instead of US$15,000. Buyers in Canada pay GST/HST (and PST/QST) on top of the price, and processing is charged on that too.

Ways to keep more of each sale

  • Grow into the next tier. Reaching Tier 1 drops a $25 card’s fees from $3.15 to $3.09; the bigger cuts come in Fashion and Other Collectibles at higher tiers.
  • Categorize shows accurately. Marketplace listings use the item’s category, while a show’s category sets the rate for everything sold in it. Pick the category that matches most of what you sell; Whatnot treats deliberate miscategorizing as fee avoidance.
  • Think twice about free shipping. Covering a $4.47 label on a $25 card cuts what you keep from $21.85 to $17.50.
  • Avoid seller cancellations. Cancelling for a reason in your control costs 3 in your currency or 3% of the order, whichever is higher (the first one is waived).
  • Use the right box. A Priority or Flat Rate box on a Ground Advantage label costs about $20, and from November 4, 2026 weight corrections on USPS labels are charged to you.
  • Add your VAT or GST number if you’re registered, so Whatnot stops adding tax to its fees.

Questions sellers ask

How much does Whatnot take from a sale in 2026?

At the Standard tier Whatnot keeps 8% of the sale price (4% for Coins & Money), plus 2.9% of everything the buyer pays and $0.30 per transaction. On a $25 card with $4.47 shipping that is $2.00 + $1.15 = $3.15, so you keep $21.85. Seller-paid shipping, signature confirmation and Promote spend come on top.

What are Whatnot’s new commission tiers?

Since September 21, 2026 your total sales in one 4-week period set your rate for the next period. In the US, Tier 1 starts at $15,000, then $35,000, $50,000, $100,000, $250,000 and $500,000. Sports and TCG go from 8% down to 6.5%, Other Collectibles to 5%, Fashion to 4.5%, other categories to 4%, and Coins & Money from 4% to 3.5%.

Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping and sales tax?

The commission doesn’t: it is charged on the sale price only. The payment processing fee does, because its 2.9% applies to everything the buyer pays, shipping and sales tax included. On a $10 item with $4.99 shipping and $0.85 tax, commission is $0.80 and processing is $0.76.

Is the Whatnot processing fee per item or per order?

Per transaction: each purchase pays 2.9% of what the buyer paid plus $0.30, and every item won in a live show is its own purchase. That is why small wins cost so much: a $1 win with $4.47 shipping pays $0.54 in fees. Added to an earlier bundle with no extra shipping, the same $1 win pays $0.41.

Is Whatnot’s commission still 8%? Is Electronics still 5%?

8% is now the Standard-tier rate for every category group except Coins & Money, which is 4%. Electronics no longer has a 5% rate of its own: it is in Other Collectibles, 8% at Standard and 5% from Tier 4 ($100,000 in 4-week sales). Many guides written before September 2026 still show the old numbers.

How do I get Whatnot’s 3% commission rate?

You can’t apply for it. Whatnot says rates as low as 3% are custom terms for its highest-volume sellers who work with an account manager. The lowest published US rates are 6.5% for sports and TCG, 5% for Other Collectibles, 4.5% for Fashion, 4% for other categories and 3.5% for Coins & Money.

What are Whatnot’s seller fees in the UK?

Commission is 6.67% + VAT at the Standard tier (Coins & Money 4% + VAT) and falls once you sell £10,000 in a 4-week period. Processing is 2.42% + £0.25 + VAT. Without a VAT number on your account Whatnot adds 20% VAT to both, so a £25 card with £3.27 shipping costs £3.12 in fees and you keep £21.88.

Does the 0% commission over $1,500 still apply with the new tiers?

Yes, as a limited-time promotion in Trading Card Games, sports singles, Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Entertainment Cards, Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches. Commission is charged on the first $1,500 only, while processing still applies to the full amount. A $2,000 card at the Standard tier pays $120 in commission instead of $160.

Will my Whatnot fees go up when the Premier Shop discount ends?

If you are a Premier Shop and stay in the same tier, yes. Through October 31, 2026 Premier Shops pay 10% less commission, so 8% becomes 7.2%. From November 1 your rate is set by your sales tier alone, and a $100 sale at the Standard tier pays $8.00 in commission instead of $7.20. Moving up a tier can offset some or all of the difference.

Why did two Whatnot orders at the same price pay different fees?

The rate follows the category: live sales use the show’s category and marketplace sales the item’s, so a sweater sold in a card show pays the card rate. Processing also changes with the shipping and tax each buyer paid. And a tier you cross only lowers your rate from the next 4-week period.
