Does this match your statement?

Walmart’s fees look simple: no monthly fee, one referral fee per sale, 15% in most categories. The catch is what that percentage is charged on and how the price bands work. The fee applies to the item price plus the shipping you charge, and in some categories one cent over a threshold moves the whole sale into a higher band. Add Walmart Fulfillment Services and you also pay a per-unit fee worked out from a dimensional weight and a storage fee by the cubic foot. The calculator above applies each rule the way Walmart’s own schedule words it and shows the arithmetic on every line.

What catches sellers out:

  • Shipping is charged too. The referral fee applies to the item price plus the shipping and handling the buyer pays, so moving cost into shipping doesn’t lower it. It never applies to sales tax.
  • Some bands apply to the whole price. Apparel, Baby, Beauty, Grocery and Outdoor Power Tools charge one rate on the entire total once you cross a threshold. Jewelry, Watches, Furniture, Compact Appliances, Electronics Accessories and approved trading cards only charge the higher or lower rate on the part above it.
  • The category is Walmart’s call. Walmart assigns the contract category from the product type. If it’s wrong, you can dispute within 90 days of settlement, but not when the error came from your own item setup.
  • Old pages show old numbers. Walmart’s marketing pricing page still lists collectibles at a flat 8% and long-term storage at $2.25 for anything over 12 months. Both have since changed.

What you keep at common prices

Each row assumes Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden (15%), $5 shipping charged and you ship the order yourself.

$100.00$15.7515.0%$89.25
$200.00$30.7515.0%$174.25

With no fixed fee per order, the share Walmart takes stays at exactly 15% of item plus shipping at every price: a $10 item gives up the same share as a $200 one.

How the fees add up on one order

A $25 item with $5 shipping, in a 15% category, shipped by you:

Worked example
  • Buyer pays$30.00
  • Referral fee15% × $25.00−$3.75
  • Referral fee: shipping15% × $5.00−$0.75
  • You keep$25.50

The buyer pays $30.00 plus any sales tax, which isn’t part of the fee. Walmart takes 15% of the $25.00 item ($3.75) and 15% of the $5.00 shipping ($0.75), so $4.50 in total, and you keep $25.50 before your own costs. Walmart doesn’t add a payment processing fee: under its retailer agreement it pays you what it collects minus the referral fee.

Price bands: when one cent changes the fee

In the whole-price categories the band is chosen by the total sales price, and then that one rate applies to all of it. Here is Apparel & Accessories with free shipping:

Item priceTotal feesFee rateYou keep
$10.00$0.505.00%$9.50
$15.00$0.755.00%$14.25
$15.01$1.509.99%$13.51
$20.00$2.0010.0%$18.00
$20.01$3.0015.0%$17.01
$25.00$3.7515.0%$21.25
$30.00$4.5015.0%$25.50

At $15.00 Walmart takes $0.75 and you keep $14.25. At $15.01 the fee doubles to $1.50 and you keep $13.51, less than at the lower price. The same jump happens just above $20.00: $2.00 at $20.00 becomes $3.00 at $20.01. Because shipping counts toward the total, a $12 shirt with $4 shipping pays 10% ($1.60) instead of the 5% ($0.60) it would pay with free shipping. The calculator flags it when your total sits within $3 of one of these edges.

Outdoor Power Tools runs the other way: up to $500.00 the fee is 15% ($75.00 at $500.00), and above $500 it is 8% of the whole price, $40.00 at $500.01.

WFS fulfillment and storage

Choose “Walmart ships it (WFS)” above and enter the packed size and weight. Walmart takes the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 139), adds 0.25 lb for packaging and rounds up to the next pound. Under 1 lb it uses the unit weight alone. A $29.99 kitchen item weighing 2.4 lb in a 10 × 8 × 4 inch box, stored for 30 days:

Worked example
  • Buyer pays$29.99
  • Referral fee15% × $29.99−$4.50
  • WFS fulfillment fee3 lb shipping weight: $5.45−$5.45
  • WFS storage (30 days)0.185 cu ft × $0.75/month × 30/30−$0.14
  • You keep$19.90

Its dimensional weight is 2.3 lb, so the 2.4 lb unit weight counts: 2.65 lb rounds up to 3 lb, which costs $5.45. Storage is 0.185 cubic feet at $0.75 a month, about $0.14 for 30 days. With the $4.50 referral fee, Walmart keeps $10.09 and you keep $19.90. The fulfillment fee covers delivery to the customer, so there is no postage of yours to add.

Things the WFS fee table hides:

  • Add-ons per unit: $0.50 for clothing, $0.50 for batteries, chemicals, aerosols and pesticides, $1 when the item is priced under $10, $3 for Oversize 1 and $20 for Oversize 2, which is also priced from at least 90 lb. A $9.99 item pays $1 more in fulfillment than the same item at $10.00.
  • The table isn’t smooth. 30 lb costs $19.15 but 31 lb costs $14.55, because the 31–50 lb band starts lower.
  • Storage grows with age. October to December, units stored more than 30 days pay $2.25 per cubic foot a month instead of $0.75. Since June 30, 2026, inventory over 365 days old pays $2.25 and over 450 days pays $7.50.
  • Returns cost twice. On a return that isn’t Walmart’s fault you get the referral fee back, but not the fulfillment fee, and you pay a return processing fee: $6.70 for the 3 lb example above.

For pricing against Amazon’s fulfillment network, compare with the Amazon FBA calculator.

Ways to keep more of each sale

  • Price under a band edge. In Apparel, Baby, Beauty and Grocery, check the total including shipping. Dropping from $15.01 to $15.00 in Apparel saves $0.75 in fees on one cent of price.
  • Check your contract category. The Statements page shows the category and rate on every item. Dispute a wrong rate within 90 days of settlement.
  • Measure before you send to WFS. Walmart re-measures at the warehouse, and the box size drives the fee. A slightly smaller box can drop a pound or a size tier.
  • Sell aged stock before day 365. After a year the storage rate triples, and after 450 days it’s ten times the base rate.
  • Use the discounts you qualify for. Sellers who started after February 1, 2026 get 20% off referral fees on their first $50,000 of sales, 30% up to $500,000 and 40% above, plus 10% off WFS fulfillment. Customer Favorite items get 25% off referral fees for meeting competitor prices, or 100% with fast, free shipping. Both end January 31, 2027, and Walmart may apply only the highest offer. Pick yours under “More options”.

Questions sellers ask

Does Walmart Marketplace charge a monthly fee?

No. Walmart charges no setup, monthly or subscription fee. You pay a referral fee only when an item sells, plus fulfillment and storage fees if Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) ships your orders.

What is Walmart’s referral fee?

It depends on the item’s contract category: 15% in most categories, 8% for consumer electronics, cameras and major appliances, 6% for personal computers and 12% for automotive. A $25 item with $5 shipping in Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden pays $4.50 and you keep $25.50. Your Statements page shows the category and rate Walmart assigned to each item.

Does Walmart charge referral fees on shipping and sales tax?

Shipping, yes: the fee is a percentage of the total sales price, which includes the item, the shipping and handling the buyer pays, gift wrap and other charges. Sales tax, no: taxes stated separately are excluded. Your Payments report lists the two parts as “Commission on product” and “Commission on shipping”.

How do Walmart’s apparel fee thresholds work?

Apparel pays one rate on the whole total sales price: 5% at $15 or less, 10% above $15 up to $20, and 15% above $20. Shipping counts toward the total, so a $12 shirt with $4 shipping ($16) pays 10%, or $1.60, while the same shirt with free shipping pays 5%, or $0.60. Baby and Beauty work the same way at $10 (8% / 15%), Grocery at $15 (8% / 15%).

Are Walmart’s jewelry and watch fees charged on the whole price?

No, only the part of the price in each band. Jewelry pays 20% on the first $250 and 5% on the rest, so a $400 piece costs $57.50. Watches pay 15% on the first $1,500 and 3% above, so a $2,000 watch costs $240.00.

What does Walmart charge to sell trading cards and collectibles?

Sellers approved through Walmart’s Collectibles Program pay 8% on the first $2,500 of trading cards, card games, comics, coins, autographed collectibles and ephemera, and 2.35% above that. A $4,000 card pays $235.25. Other collectibles pay 8%.

How are WFS fulfillment fees calculated, and is the divisor 139?

Yes, 139. Take the greater of the unit weight and length × width × height ÷ 139 (under 1 lb, only the unit weight), add 0.25 lb and round up. A 6 lb box of 12 × 10 × 10 inches comes to 9 lb and costs $7.75. Fees start at $3.45 for 1 lb, plus add-ons for clothing, hazmat, items under $10 and oversize items.

How much is WFS storage in 2026?

$0.75 per cubic foot a month, billed daily. From October to December, units stored more than 30 days pay $2.25. Since June 30, 2026, inventory older than 365 days pays $2.25 and inventory older than 450 days pays $7.50 per cubic foot a month.

What happens to Walmart fees when a WFS order is returned?

If the return isn’t Walmart’s fault (wrong size, no longer wanted), the sale is reversed and Walmart refunds the referral fee, but it keeps the fulfillment fee and charges a return processing fee, from $4.70 for a 1 lb item. Returns that are Walmart’s fault, such as items damaged or lost in transit, don’t carry that fee.

How often does Walmart pay sellers, and is there a payout fee?

Generally every 14 days. New sellers have a rolling payment hold, so an order is usually paid about 28 days after it ships or is delivered. Walmart doesn’t list a payout fee; the $1.50 some sellers see is Payoneer’s, charged on withdrawals when the Payoneer account wasn’t opened through Seller Center.
