What you list it for, or the offer you accept, in US dollars. The buyer’s shipping and tax are added on top and don’t change your fees.

Everyone starts at 90. Each cancellation takes off 10 points; each completed sale adds 2.

Shipping

Your seller fee depends on the address on your account: $0 to $35 per item.

How will the item get to GOAT?

The drop-off rate only applies when you drop off a confirmed order at a GOAT location. Consigned items pay the prepaid-label rate.

Dropping off a confirmed order at a GOAT drop-off location costs $0 instead of $5, if there is one near you.

Spending the money on GOAT instead of cashing out skips the cash-out fee: $5.80 more on this sale, as GOAT credit only.

Does this match your statement?

GOAT looks simple: one commission and one flat fee, both taken from your listing price. The catch is everything around them. The commission depends on a seller rating that cancellations push down. The flat seller fee depends on your country and on how the item reaches GOAT. And a third fee, 2.9% for cashing out, is charged on the full sale price, which some calculators get wrong. The calculator above applies each fee to the amount GOAT names, in US dollars, the only currency GOAT sellers can list in.

Four things catch most sellers out:

  • The cash-out fee is charged on the sale price. 2.9% of $200 is $5.80, taken from your Cash Out Balance the moment the item sells. Applying it to what’s left after the other fees ($5.10) undercounts it.
  • The seller fee depends on where your account is. It is $5 for a US seller using GOAT’s prepaid label, $6 in France, $8 in Australia and $30 in countries GOAT doesn’t list. There is no separate charge for the label itself.
  • Drop-off pricing is narrow. The $0 US drop-off rate only applies when you drop off a confirmed order at a GOAT location. Items you consign pay the standard $5.
  • Your rate is set when the item sells. If your rating changes between listing and sale, GOAT adjusts your earnings with a credit afterwards.

What you keep at common prices

Each row assumes a US seller with a rating of 90 or more, the prepaid label, and a cash-out to the bank.

The $5 seller fee is why cheap pairs lose more: fees take 22.4% of a $50 sale but 12.9% of a $1,000 one. With a drop-off the seller fee disappears and fees come to 12.4% (9.5% plus 2.9%) at any price.

How the fees add up on one order

A $200 pair sold by a US seller with a rating of 90, shipped with the prepaid label, with the money cashed out to a bank:

Worked example
  • Buyer pays$200.00
  • Commission (9.5%)9.5% × $200.00−$19.00
  • Seller feeUnited States, prepaid label−$5.00
  • Cash-out fee (2.9%)2.9% × $200.00−$5.80
  • You keep$170.20

The first line is your listing price, not what the buyer pays. GOAT adds the buyer’s shipping ($14.95 in the contiguous US) and any tax on top, and none of it touches your earnings. From the $200, GOAT takes a $19.00 commission and the $5 seller fee, leaving $176.00 in your Spend Balance. The 2.9% cash-out fee comes off the full $200, so $170.20 lands in your bank.

How your seller rating changes the commission

Every seller starts at a rating of 90 and pays 9.5%. Each seller cancellation takes off 10 points, and each completed sale adds 2. On a $200 sale with the prepaid label:

  • 90 or higher: 9.5% commission, you keep $170.20.
  • 70–89: 15%, you keep $159.20.
  • 50–69: 20%, you keep $149.20.
  • Below 50: 25%, you keep $139.20, and GOAT may review or suspend the account.

One cancellation costs more than the $10 fee: it can move a 90 to an 80, and each sale until you’re back at 90 then pays 5.5 points more commission. That takes five completed sales.

Selling from Canada, the UK and elsewhere

Selling from outside the US is open to select sellers, and every price and fee is in US dollars. Pick your country in the calculator to load its seller fee.

  • Canada pays 12.4% at the top rating instead of 9.5%, but no cash-out fee. A $200 sale nets $170.20, the same as a US seller.
  • UK and Germany pay $2 for a drop-off and $5 with the prepaid label; the Netherlands $3 and $6. A $200 UK drop-off sale leaves $173.20.
  • Mainland China and Hong Kong pay $5 for a drop-off and $10 with a prepaid label. Sellers in Mainland China cash out to a US bank account or PayPal, so the cross-border fee below doesn’t apply to them.
  • Cashing out: most sellers outside the US can be paid in local currency, at an exchange rate that includes an unpublished conversion fee. Choosing US dollars instead may add a 0.6% cross-border fee: $1.04 on that UK sale. GOAT also says some sellers in select locations pay 3.1% instead of 2.9%; the calculator has that option under “More options”.

Consignment, Instant and fees after a problem

Consigning doesn’t add a separate commission. When a consigned item sells you pay the normal commission and seller fee, at the prepaid rate ($5 in the US) rather than the drop-off rate. The costs come later: GOAT reserves the right to charge storage on consigned items, with notice first. An item you consign after a verification issue (when GOAT didn’t charge the $10 issue fee) costs $2 a month once it has sat unsold for 60 days, and withdrawing an item can add the Retrieval Fee. If GOAT rejects an item for not matching your listing and you choose to consign it instead of having it sent back, a $15 processing fee may apply. “Instant” listings may carry a processing fee of up to 8%, but the buyer pays it and it doesn’t reduce your earnings.

Ways to keep more of each sale

  • Use a GOAT drop-off location if one is near you. It saves the $5 seller fee on every US order.
  • Spend the balance on GOAT if you were going to buy there anyway. The Spend Balance skips the 2.9% cash-out fee: $5.80 on a $200 sale.
  • Only list what you can ship within 3 business days. A cancellation costs $10 and can push your commission up for several sales.
  • Cash out in local currency outside the US unless you need dollars, to avoid the 0.6% fee.
  • Work backwards from what you need. To keep $150 after every fee, a US seller has to list at $176.94; the “What to charge” tab finds that price for any setup.

Questions sellers ask

How much does GOAT take from a sale?

A US seller with a seller rating of 90 or more pays a 9.5% commission, a $5 seller fee with GOAT’s prepaid label, and a 2.9% cash-out fee on the sale price. On a $200 pair that is $19.00 + $5.00 + $5.80 = $29.80, so you keep $170.20 (14.9% in fees). Dropping the order off at a GOAT location instead of shipping it cuts the seller fee to $0 and leaves you $175.20.

How much will I get for a $100 pair on GOAT?

$82.60 if you ship with the prepaid label and cash out to your bank: $9.50 commission, $5 seller fee and $2.90 cash-out fee. That is 17.4% of the price, because the $5 seller fee weighs more on cheaper pairs. With a drop-off it is $87.60.

Is GOAT’s 2.9% cash-out fee charged on the sale price or on what I receive?

On the sale price. GOAT Group’s alias Fee Policy says the 2.9% applies “to the selling price of each item”, and it is taken from your Cash Out Balance as soon as the item sells. On a $200 sale that is $5.80, not the $5.10 you would get by applying 2.9% to the $176 left after commission and seller fee.

What is the GOAT seller fee?

A flat fee per item set by the country on your seller account. In the US it is $5 with GOAT’s prepaid shipping label and $0 when you drop off a confirmed order at a GOAT drop-off location. Outside the US it runs from $0 (Canada drop-off) to $24 (Malta and Cyprus), with $30 for countries GOAT doesn’t list; US territories and military addresses pay $8 to $35.

Why is my GOAT commission higher than 9.5%?

Your seller rating dropped below 90. Every seller starts at 90; each cancellation takes off 10 points and each completed sale adds 2. Between 70 and 89 the commission is 15%, which on a $200 sale means keeping $159.20 instead of $170.20; five completed sales bring an 80 back to 90.

Why do Canadian sellers pay 12.4% on GOAT?

Canadian sellers have their own commission rates, 12.4%, 17.9%, 22.9% and 27.9% by rating, but pay no 2.9% cash-out fee. The two differences cancel out: on a $200 sale with the prepaid label a Canadian seller pays $24.80 commission and $5 seller fee and keeps $170.20, exactly what a US seller keeps after cashing out.

Can I avoid the GOAT cash-out fee?

Yes, by spending your earnings on GOAT. The Spend Balance carries no cash-out fee, so a $200 sale leaves $176.00 to spend instead of $170.20 to cash out. Canadian sellers don’t pay the fee at all.

What does GOAT charge if I cancel or the item fails verification?

Cancelling after you confirm costs $10 and 10 seller-rating points, and an order cancelled because you didn’t ship within 3 business days also costs $10. An item with an issue the buyer won’t accept at a discount can cost $10, a replica $15, and shipping from the wrong country or to the wrong drop-off point $10. Having a rejected item sent back adds a Retrieval Fee GOAT doesn’t publish.

What is the minimum to cash out on GOAT?

GOAT’s own pages disagree. Selling with GOAT and the alias policies say you can cash out once your earnings are greater than $10.00, while GOAT’s Fee Policy still says greater than $25. After you cash out, Selling with GOAT allows 3–5 business days for your bank to process it.

What is GOAT’s 0.6% cross-border fee?

A fee that may apply when a seller outside the US chooses to cash out in US dollars where local currency is offered. On a $150 UK drop-off sale it comes to $0.78 if applied to the $129.40 being cashed out. Cashing out in pounds or euros avoids it, but GOAT’s exchange rate then includes a conversion fee it doesn’t publish.
