Reverb’s headline is a 5% selling fee, but every sale through Reverb Payments also pays a processing fee, and the two are charged on different amounts. The 5% comes off the price plus shipping; processing comes off everything the buyer pays, including the sales tax Reverb collects for the state. Bump, cross-border, currency conversion and Safe Shipping fees can stack on top. The calculator above applies each fee to exactly the amount Reverb names, rounds each line to the cent and shows the arithmetic, so you can price a listing or check a payout line by line.

What catches sellers out:

  • It isn’t 5%. With processing, a typical sale costs a little over 8%: $27.11 on a $300 item with $25 shipping. Reverb’s own pricing page puts it at 8.19% + $0.49.
  • Shipping is charged too. Both fees apply to the shipping the buyer pays, so free shipping built into the price costs the same.
  • Processing is charged on sales tax. You never receive the tax, but 3.19% of it still comes out of your payout.
  • Bump can apply without you noticing. Auto-Bump rules Bump matching listings automatically, and an offer is billed at the Bump rate in effect when it was made, even if you lowered the rate before accepting.
  • Partial refunds don’t return processing or Bump. Only the 5% selling fee comes back, in proportion to the refund.

What you keep at common prices

Each row assumes a US seller, a domestic buyer, no separate shipping charge, no sales tax and no Bump.

$15,000.00$978.996.53%$14,021.01

The $0.49 processing fee and the $0.50 minimum weigh most on cheap items: a $10 sale gives up 13.1%. Between $250 and $10,000 the rate settles at about 8.2% to 8.4%, and above $10,000 the $500 cap pulls it down, to 6.5% on a $15,000 sale.

How the fees add up on one order

A $300 item with $25 shipping, sold to a buyer who pays 8% sales tax:

Worked example
  • Buyer pays$351.00
  • Selling fee5% × $325.00−$16.25
  • Payment processing3.19% × $351.00 + $0.49−$11.69
  • You keep$297.06

The buyer pays $351.00. The 5% selling fee is charged on the $325.00 of price and shipping: $16.25. Processing is 3.19% of the whole $351.00 plus $0.49, which comes to $11.69, or $0.83 more than the same sale without tax. You keep $297.06 before your label and other costs, and Reverb passes the $26.00 of tax to the state.

Bump: what promoted listings cost

Bump is Reverb’s advertising. You set a rate between 1% and 30%, and Reverb usually suggests 4.5%. Nothing is charged unless the listing sells; then the rate applies to the price plus shipping, not tax. At 4.5%, the $300 item with $25 shipping pays another $14.63, and total fees rise from 8.3% to 12.8% of the sale.

Two rules matter once offers are involved. The rate is locked in when an offer is made, so lowering it before you accept doesn’t lower the fee. And a brand-new listing sold through a Direct Offer pays at most 1.5% ($4.88 on the same sale), whatever its rate. If a listing is Bumped and you didn’t Bump it yourself, check your Auto-Bump rules.

Selling outside the US

The 5% selling fee is the same everywhere. What changes is processing, the cross-border fee and tax on Reverb’s own fees. The table shows a sale of 300 plus 20 shipping in each market’s own currency, with VAT added to the fees where a seller hasn’t given Reverb a VAT ID.

  • United Kingdom: an all-in 5% with no processing fee. Buyers outside the UK, including the EU, add 1%, and sellers without a VAT ID pay 20% VAT on Reverb’s fees.
  • Euro countries: 3.19% + €0.49 processing. Sales anywhere in the European Economic Area count as domestic; buyers in the UK, Switzerland or the US add 1%.
  • Canada: 3.19% + C$0.49, with the selling fee capped at C$680 (the Billing Policy says C$675). Listing in US dollars while you’re paid in Canadian dollars costs another 2.5%, and GST/HST on Reverb’s fees may come on top, depending on your tax status.
  • Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Poland first appear in Reverb’s fee table in October 2026: 3.19% + CHF 0.50 in Switzerland, and 3.3% plus NOK 2.80, SEK 3.25, DKK 2.60 or PLN 1.35 elsewhere. Their minimum and maximum selling fees are the US-dollar equivalents of $0.50 and $500.
  • Paid through PayPal? Where Reverb Payments isn’t available, PayPal charges its own processing fee instead of Reverb’s (see our PayPal fee calculator). Since May 13, 2026, Reverb’s 5% and any Bump fee come straight out of the PayPal payout, which is released only after you add tracking.

Ways to keep more of each sale

  • List in the currency you’re paid in. That alone avoids the 2.5% conversion fee.
  • Bump on purpose. Review your Auto-Bump rules, and set the rate you want before offers arrive, since an offer locks it in.
  • Let buyers request refunds through Reverb. Only seller-initiated full refunds count toward the monthly limit; from the sixth in a month, the processing fee isn’t refunded.
  • Measure the outside of the box. Carriers audit labels, and any adjustment lands on your monthly statement later. Reverb suggests a proper scale and tape measure, rounding each outside dimension up to the next inch.
  • Add your VAT ID if you’re VAT-registered, so Reverb stops adding VAT to its fees.
  • Compare before you list. The same sale on eBay is one click away in the eBay fee calculator.

Questions sellers ask

How much does Reverb take when you sell something?

In the US, Reverb takes a 5% selling fee on the price plus shipping, and 3.19% + $0.49 for payment processing on everything the buyer pays. On a $300 item with $25 shipping that is $27.11 in fees, so you keep $297.89 (about 8.3% in fees). Bump, the 1% cross-border fee and Safe Shipping come on top when they apply.

Does Reverb charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 5% selling fee and the payment processing fee are both calculated on the price plus the shipping the buyer pays, and so is Bump. Moving cost from the price into shipping doesn’t lower your fees.

Does Reverb charge the payment processing fee on sales tax?

Yes. Processing is charged on the full order total, including the sales tax Reverb collects, but the 5% selling fee is not. On a $300 item with $25 shipping and 8% sales tax, the buyer pays $351.00 and processing rises from $10.86 to $11.69. The tax itself goes to the state, not to you.

Is there a maximum Reverb selling fee?

Yes. The 5% selling fee is at least $0.50 and at most $500 per sale, so it stops growing once the price plus shipping passes $10,000. The cap is €500 in euros, £500 in pounds and C$680 in Canada (Reverb’s Billing Policy says C$675). Processing has no cap: a $15,000 guitar pays $500 plus $478.99 in processing.

How much does Reverb Bump cost?

You choose the rate, from 1% to 30% of the price plus shipping, and pay it only if the Bumped listing sells; Reverb usually suggests 4.5%. At 4.5%, a $300 item with $25 shipping pays $14.63 more. If the sale came from an offer, the rate in effect when the offer was made applies, and a brand-new listing sold through a Direct Offer pays at most 1.5%.

What is Reverb’s cross-border fee?

It is 1% of the transaction total when the buyer is in another country, on top of the normal fees: $3.25 on a $300 item with $25 shipping. Sales inside the European Economic Area count as domestic. UK sellers pay it on sales to the EU, and EU sellers pay it on sales to the UK.

Are Reverb fees different for UK sellers?

Yes. UK sellers pay an all-in 5% fee with no payment processing fee, so a £300 item with £20 postage costs £16.00. Selling to a buyer outside the UK adds 1%. If you haven’t added a VAT number to your Reverb account, Reverb adds 20% VAT to its fees, which turns that £16.00 into £19.20.

Do I get Reverb fees back if I refund an order?

On a full refund Reverb returns the 5% selling fee, the processing fee and any Bump fee, but not a shipping label bought through Reverb. On a partial refund only the selling fee comes back, in proportion to the amount refunded. From your sixth seller-initiated full refund in a month, the processing fee is no longer refunded.

How much does Safe Shipping cost on Reverb?

Safe Shipping adds 1% to 3.5% of the item’s sale price to a label bought through Reverb, depending on the gear and its destination; the exact rate appears when you buy the label. It is required for items priced $1,500 to $10,000, and neither Reverb labels nor Safe Shipping are offered at $10,000 or more. At 2%, a $2,000 guitar pays $40.00.

Does Reverb charge sellers a currency conversion fee?

Only if you list in a different currency from the one you’re paid in, for example a Canadian shop listing in US dollars. Reverb then takes 2.5% of your payout subtotal after processing: C$10.39 on a C$400 item with C$30 shipping. Listing in your payout currency avoids it.
