OfferUp’s fees are tricky because there is almost nothing left to calculate, and much of the web hasn’t caught up. Many fee guides and calculators still quote a 12.9% fee. That fee only ever applied to shipped orders, and OfferUp ended shipping in October 2025. A local sale now costs you nothing in OfferUp fees, and your buyer pays nothing extra. The money you can lose goes to optional extras: promotions, Promote Plus, a paid listing once your free ones run out, and the fee a payment app may charge. The calculator above shows the zero fee plainly, then spreads those extras over each sale so you can see what an item really leaves you.

Four things catch sellers out:
- Old numbers. The 12.9% service fee (minimum $1.99) was charged on shipped sales only. OfferUp removed shipping from new listings on September 23, 2025 and from all listings on October 21, 2025.
- Free listing limits are per category. You get 200 free listings a month in most categories, but only 15 for phones and appliances and one for cars. If you share an App Store or Google Play family account, someone else may use up your free listings.
- Subscriptions renew on their own. Promote Plus, Premium and listing subscriptions renew until you cancel in your app store, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. There are no prorated refunds, and deleting your OfferUp account doesn’t cancel a listing subscription.
- Payment app fees aren’t OfferUp’s. If a buyer pays with an app that charges for goods payments, that fee comes out of your sale. Cash costs nothing.
What you keep at common prices
With no extras, you keep every dollar at any price. This table adds a monthly Promote Plus plan spread over four sales a month:
| Sale price | Total fees | Fee rate | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $5.00 | 50.0% | $5.00 |
| $25.00 | $5.00 | 20.0% | $20.00 |
| $50.00 | $5.00 | 10.0% | $45.00 |
| $100.00 | $5.00 | 5.00% | $95.00 |
| $250.00 | $5.00 | 2.00% | $245.00 |
| $500.00 | $5.00 | 1.00% | $495.00 |
| $1,000.00 | $5.00 | 0.50% | $995.00 |
The cost is the same $5.00 at every price, so it takes half of a $10 sale and 0.5% of a $1,000 one. Promoting pays off on bigger items, not on cheap ones.
How the fees add up on one order
A $150 item, with a yearly Promote Plus plan, from a seller who sells two items a month:
- Buyer pays$150.00
- OfferUp selling fee0% · local, in-person sale$0.00
- Listing feeFree · 200 free listings a month (all other categories combined)$0.00
- Promote Plus (yearly plan)$99.99 a year ÷ 12 months ÷ 2 sales−$4.17
- You keep$145.83
The buyer hands over $150.00 and all of it is yours: OfferUp takes no cut. The only deduction is this sale’s share of the yearly plan: $99.99 over 12 months and two sales a month comes to $4.17. You keep $145.83. Add what you paid for the item under “Your costs” to see the profit.
Promote Plus or a one-off promotion
Promote Plus costs $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year. It keeps one item at a time in featured spots on the feed, and you can switch it to another listing whenever you like. First-time users get a 3-day free trial; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends or it turns into a paid plan.
What it costs per sale depends on how often you sell. On the monthly plan, one sale a month carries the whole $19.99. Four sales a month bring it down to $5.00 each. The yearly plan works out to $8.33 a month, or $2.08 per sale at four sales a month. Set “Items you sell a month” above to see your own figure.
One-off promotions put an item in featured spots for 1 or 3 days, and you can stack them. OfferUp shows the price in the app before you buy and doesn’t publish a list, so pick “1- or 3-day promotion” and enter what you paid. Promotions can’t be canceled. You may not see your own promoted item in your feed, and promoted spots rotate between sellers, so check the Promotion Results dashboard rather than scrolling for it.
Free listings and paid listings
Posting is free until you run out of the month’s free listings in a category. The limits reset on the 1st and don’t carry over. After that you have two options, both bought in the app:
- A single listing, priced by category. It can’t be canceled or refunded, even if you take the listing down.
- A monthly listing subscription in Appliances, Cars & Trucks, Cell Phones & Accessories, Furniture, Jewelry & Accessories or Tools & Machinery. It costs less per listing than buying them one at a time. Your free listings are used first.
OfferUp doesn’t publish either price, so enter what you paid under “More options” to include it. Don’t post an item in another category to avoid the fee: OfferUp treats that as fee avoidance and may remove the listing or act on your account.
Getting paid: cash, apps and old shipping balances
OfferUp doesn’t handle the money on a local sale. The buyer inspects the item and pays you on the spot. OfferUp calls cash the safest method and says apps like PayPal, Zelle and Venmo “do carry some risk”. Some apps also charge sellers on payments for goods. If that applies, choose “App with a fee” under “More options” and enter the app’s rate. Our Venmo, PayPal and Cash App calculators show those apps’ fees.
Still waiting on money from a shipped sale made before October 21, 2025? Add a debit card or bank account as your deposit method in the app’s Payment & Deposit methods screen.
Ways to keep more of each sale
- Take cash. It costs nothing, and OfferUp calls it the safest way to get paid.
- Post in the right category and time your listings. Free listings reset on the 1st, so a big clear-out can wait a few days instead of paying to post.
- Promote only what can carry the cost. A promotion costs the same on a $10 item as on a $500 one.
- Use the free trial, then decide. If you promote all year, the yearly plan costs less than half of paying monthly.
- Cancel subscriptions you’ve stopped using, in your app store, before the next renewal.
- Need to ship? OfferUp can’t do it anymore. Compare Mercari, eBay or Facebook Marketplace for items that won’t sell locally.
